Is Nick Diaz done fighting once and for all?

What do you mean you forgot to pack my pot brownies?

Following a loss to then UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre at UFC 158 in March 2013, Nick Diaz retired from fighting in mixed martial arts. However, after being offered half a million dollars and a shot against the G.O.A.T. Anderson Silva, Diaz came out of retirement to take the fight this past weekend at UFC 183.

The Stockton brawler was entertaining as always, though more for his antics this time than his actual fighting. He didn’t engage Silva as much as most thought he would, and after the match explained he had a problem with one of his shoulders that didn’t allow him to throw a normal punch. Diaz ended up losing the match via unanimous decision.

Fast forward a couple days when news broke that Silva and Diaz had both failed drug tests leading up to the fight — Silva for steroids, and Diaz for marijuana (of course). The fact that Anderson Silva was still allowed to fight Diaz even though he had been using steroids is a whole other story (the athletic commission says they didn’t get the results back in time). But as for Diaz, this was his third offense in Nevada testing positive for marijuana, and his penalties could even be greater than Silva’s — even though Silva was on PEDs and Diaz, well, was so stoned he actually laid down in the Octagon during the fight.

Actually, there’s no evidence to suggest Nick Diaz was high during the fight, but he did lay down. And that shit was funny. The fine he’s probably going to have to pay though won’t be so funny.

GSP left the sport because he didn’t think the playing field was fair due to rampant PED use and sub-par testing methods. Nick Diaz might just now leave a sport for good that treats marijuana users the same (or in some cases harsher) than they treat PED users.

According to a recent post from Nick on social media (see below), it appears he may be done fighting once and for all (#dunfighting). And stay tuned, because this story is FAR from over. There are more test results that still have to come back, and how the commission handles all this could have long-reaching ramifications.

Diaz currently holds a record of (26-10, 1 NC), but the 31-year-old has lost his last three fights in a row. Coupled with the penalties he’ll likely face this time around, do you think he’s done or will Stockton’s finest eventually return?
